United States Immigration must be dealt with by every person wishing to enter the United States for many reasons. Whether you want to enter the country for a short visit, do business trading, work in the US, start a business, marry a US citizen you will need documentation. You may even be fortunate to obtain a Green Card. Every year the United States Government issues 50,000 Green Cards through the Diversity Immigrantion Visa Program, the Green Card Lottery.

America has always been a land of great opportunity and is still the most sought-after place when it comes to immigration. Many want to get to the US and become citizens as it offers a lot of benefits. For example, you can become eligible to apply for federal US jobs; which are the ones that can give you the best job security - even in times of economic recession. You will also grow to be eligible for other benefits offered by the US government, apart from receiving the right to vote.

Getting a US citizenship is the primary goal of most immigrants to the US. However there is a procedure that you need to go through called naturalization – which is the process of becoming an American citizen. However you need to satisfy certain conditions to become eligible to apply for naturalization. The foremost condition is you should already be a permanent resident in US. Apart from this, there are other conditions like you need to have a good aptitude in the English language. Also, you will be tested in your knowledge on the government and history of US. You should be willing to take oath that you will follow the rules and regulations of the US government as well.

After you meet all the eligibility conditions, you will be filing your application form N-400 for naturalization. It is necessary that you mention all the right information in the application to avoid unnecessary holdups in the naturalization process. Answer openly to all the questions asked in the application form. There is no use of providing false information as you will have to explain it later anyway. Once you have completed the form, you should get a Xerox copy of your green card and file it with the application along with two recent passport size photos of yourself. You are advised to send your application fee and the application through a reputed immigration consultant firm to ensure things go right.

You will be called for an interview following this; where you will be asked to present your fingerprints and take some tests. The tests will evaluate your attitude, your skill in English and your knowledge on the US government and history. You need to perform to the satisfaction of the interviewer to get your application granted. If your interview was successful, you will move on to the final process which is about taking the Oath of Allegiance to America. This is actually to take your word that you will support US in its every move, abide by the laws of the constitution, bear arms if required for the country’s armed forces, and quit all bonds and commitments with other foreign countries. Once you are finished with the oath taking process, you become a US citizen.

Though the naturalization process is not some impossible mission, it can still be tricky and has the potential to cause unforeseen delays or rejection. It is always better to get help from immigration consultants and firms, and immigration attorneys to ensure a hassle free naturalization process.
